Homeopathy and the menopause

The menopause is a natural process but sometimes our bodies get out of balance and need help to restore good health. Cheshire Natural Health recommends the use of homeopathy as a method of treating the symptoms of menopause by restoring the body’s balance.

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy originated in ancient Greece and has been widely used throughout the world for more than 200 years.
Homeopathy assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself, by treating the individual with highly diluted substances that trigger the body’s healing process.
Homeopathy recognises that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person and that it is the patient who needs treatment - not the disease. Thus based on the patient’s experience of their symptoms, a homeopath will match the most appropriate medicine to them.
In 2000, the House of Lords’ Select Committee on Science & Technology cited homeopathy as one of the five Group One therapies, having “an individual diagnostic approach” along with osteopathy, chiropractic, herbal medicine and acupuncture.

Homeopathy is particularly appropriate for long term, chronic health problems, and is helpful for a wide range of health concerns.

How does Homeopathy work?

Homeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body’s own healing power. Because everyone is different, the remedy prescribed will take account of you as a whole person: that is your emotional characteristics as well as your physical make-up. Working on the principle of “like cures like”, you will be given a minute dose of a substance (usually in tablet form), which in large doses would cause the problem being treated.
It has long been established that a carefully selected homeopathic remedy acts as a trigger to the body’s healing processes and although science can not yet fully explain how homeopathy works, homeopathy has a strong foundation on scientific principles, developed by the doctor Samuel Hahnemann, in 1796. Even today, new theories in quantum physics are helping to shed light on the process.

Are Homeopathic Remedies Safe?

Homeopathic remedies are derived from plants, animals and minerals. They are highly dilute and work by gently boosting the natural energy of the body. There is no danger of addiction or toxicity so they are very safe, even for pregnant and sensitive patients.
Your homeopath will choose a remedy that most closely matches your individual symptoms. This stimulates your body's own healing process, which starts within your body. Your health and immune system becomes strengthened and you won’t have to worry about damaging side-effects.
If required, Homeopathy can be safely used alongside most conventional medicines.

How can Homeopathy help with Menopause?

We are often led to believe that the Menopause needs medical treatment and this is actively sought by some women. Other women may find that their symptoms are relatively minor and they need no assistance at all.
"In my practice I come across ladies of a certain age, who are struggling either physically, mentally or both, with the advent of the Menopause and its well-known associated problems.
Hot flushes and uncomfortable physical symptoms can be alleviated and the problems that arise out of a fear of the aging process, changes within the family, like the empty nest and, more frequently these days, hormonal teenagers and the feeling of being squashed between needy generations, all combine to make the whole Menopause thing seem a dreadful trial.
However, I am pleased to be able to report that the majority of my patients find that Homeopathic treatment really helps them. So for women who would like to consider their Menopause as part of a natural process and who wish to proceed to the next stage of their lives in the best possible health, I would strongly recommend a homeopathic consultation.
"

In a study carried out at an NHS Well-Woman clinic in Sheffield, 81per cent of 102 patients reported improvement of menopause symptoms after homeopathic treatment.

How long does the treatment last?

Homeopathy is a holistic therapy, which means that to establish good health both mind and body have to be treated.
The homeopath will make an assessment of your symptoms including the physical, mental and emotional effects of the menopause. How you feel, your personality and how you respond to your environment are important too. All these factors are taken into consideration in finding the right medicine for you.
During the consultation you will be able to explore all the issues that concern you; identify changes that you can make yourself, and use homeopathic remedies to restore your confidence and well-being.
This naturally means that a typical initial consultation can take up to about 2 hours. Follow-up sessions are usually around 1 hour and as everyone is an individual, the number of overall sessions will vary.
